Alert Commander from Logitech has been created to offer users the possibility to set up a complete video security system by themselves instead of paying for expensive surveillance equipment. Nov 14, 2012 Alert Commander provides valuable features that even a few professionals don’t have. Here’s what else you can do:. Install your Logitech Alert camera system on any Mac. Control and configure your video security system. Manage up to 6 cameras. View live and recorded video in HD resolution.

Logitech has extended support for its Alert security camera system to Macs, with a new version of the Commander control software pushed out for OS X. The new app supports viewing live footage from Logitech’s Alert series of HomePlug-enabled cameras, as well as recording it in HD resolution, while viewpoint controls allow users to digitally pan, tilt, and zoom what they’re seeing.
There’s also motion zone control, allowing cameras to trigger recording or send out an alert to your mobile device or via email if movement in up to 16 particular spots is identified. Logitech offers iOS, Android, and BlackBerry companion apps for smartphones and tablets, which support remote viewing as well.
Up to six cameras can be managed by a single copy of Alert Commander, and even if your Mac is not powered up, the internal microSD card in the cameras themselves keep a local version of any footage gathered. The app can then be used to transfer and backup those local recordings.
Existing Alert camera owners can download the new Alert Commander for Mac OS X from the Mac App Store today. If you don’t have an Alert camera, they start at $349.99 for the Alert 750e Outdoor Master System and $299.99 for the Alert 750n Indoor Master System; subsequent cameras are priced from $199.99.

If you find that your firewall continues to block communications with a camera, e.g. a camera does not appear in Commander, then you will need to manually enter the camera’s IP address into the firewall application.

How do I find a camera’s IP address?
You can find a camera’s IP address using 2 methods: the router’s application or the PC’s command prompt.
Finding a camera IP address from router’s application
1. Open a new Internet browser.
2. In the URL address field, enter the address for the router. This allows you to log in as the router administrator.
3. IP addresses for cameras are located in a section called “Attached Devices” or “Device List”.
4. Look for the physical address, which is the MAC address for the camera. (It will have a number like this: 00-12-AC-14-8B-CA.) In this section, you will find the camera’s IP address.
Finding a camera IP address from Diagnostics Report in Alert Commander
1. In Commander, click on the Settings icon.
2.Click on Diagnostics.
3. Click the Run Detailed Diagnostics button. The diagnostics will display. (This may take just over a minute or more to compile.)

4. Scroll down the report until you come to the Camera section for the camera you need the IP address for. Look for the physical address, which is the MAC address for the camera. (It will have a number like this: 00-12-AC-14-8B-CA.) In this section, you will find the camera’s IP address. Use the IP address in the firewall application if you find that access to the camera from the Internet (specifically Web Viewer and Web Commander) is blocked.
